Two cars were stolen Wednesday in what appears to be related cases. Both vehicles have been recovered by the Great Bend Police Department, Detective David Bailey said Thursday.
Theft of a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am from 1113 Ninth St. was reported at 7 a.m. Wednesday. It was recovered in the 300 block of Pine Street around 8:14 a.m., and a man carrying backpacks or duffel bags was seen walking away. The car was released to its owner.
The Barton County Sheriff’s Office was called to help look for the suspect. The dispatcher advised deputies to look for a tall white man carrying three backpacks, who looked like he had just been in a fight.
That afternoon, police received a report that a silver 2012 Chevy Impala had been stolen from A One Automotive, 1201 10th St.
The Impala was recovered Thursday afternoon in the 200 block of Chestnut Street, and the bags were inside it.

The suspect remains at large. Anyone with information may call the GBPD, 793-4120, or Crime Stoppers, 792-1300.
