(Oct. 12) A hit-and-run accident occurred at approximately 8 p.m. Saturday on the U.S. 281 Bypass. The Great Bend Police Department reported a woman was hit and was being flown to a Wichita hospital via air ambulance with critical injuries.

Although there were no known witnesses Saturday evening, the police were looking for a white full-sized sport utility vehicle — possibly a Tahoe, Yukon or Expedition — seen headed north on 281. Anyone who witnessed the accident, or who has seen a vehicle with new damage, or who may have information regarding this hit-and-run accident is asked to call 911 immediately.

UPDATE (2:27 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14):

Great Bend Police Department reports the woman, Rhiannon Young, has died. One person of interest has been interviewed but the case is still under investigation. Public assistance is still requested. If anyone saw something in the area of Harm's Field on the U.S. 281 Bypass between 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday call Crime Stoppers, 792-1300.
