Criminal damage to property at the Great Bend Brit Spaugh Zoo was discovered Monday morning. Damage was estimated at $1,500.

Zoo Director Scott Gregory said someone broke in, trampled a number of flower beds and scratched an exhibit, causing minor damage. No animals were injured.

"The big vandalism came to our Polaris, the vehicle the keepers use to drive around the zoo,"  he said. It was hot wired with a screwdriver and was "all torn up."

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information can call the Great Bend Police Department, 793-4120, or leave an anonymous tip by calling Crime Stoppers, 793-1300. For toll-free calls outside of Great Bend, the Crime Stoppers number is 1-888-305-1300.
