If you plan to walk in Veterans Memorial Park in the next few days, you may have to alter your path. However, that is just temporary and it is making way for an improved walking experience, according to City Engineer Robert Winiecke.
He said there will be work going on for a couple of weeks as the walking path on the north wise of the park is being replaced.
“Eakin Enterprises will begin removing and replacing a portion of the old asphalt waking path at the north side of Vets Park with new concrete sidewalk,” Winiecke announced this week.
The city engineer added the work was planned to begin today. “Construction is anticipated to begin on, or around, Sept. 28 and should last approximately two weeks.”
The walking path has been a popular exercise attraction for the park and has become even more busy than usual in recent weeks as the summer’s brutal triple-digit heat has been replaced with much more seasonal weather. It is common to see the park active in evenings and weekends by walkers following a variety of courses.
This project should make the section of walk path on the north side of the park more enjoyable, though it will temporarily inconvenience the exercisers.
“Residents can expect to see heavy machinery in and around the area of work, and can expect to see a portion of the walking path closed during the course of construction,” Winiecke noted.
