The victim involved in a drowning on Sunday at Wilson Lake has been identified.

According to Russell County Undersheriff Max Barrett, the drowning victim was Richard G. Roach of Ellsworth. The cause of death was determined to be drowning and alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in the incident.

On Sunday, July 14 a bass fisherman at Wilson Lake contacted Russell County 911 about a body floating in the water off the Wilson Dam.

Officers from the Russell County Sheriff's Office, Kansas Wildlife, Parks and Tourism along with US Army Corps of Engineers responded Sunday and located the body floating face down in the water along the face of the dam.

The body was recovered and turned over to the county coroner's office and Russell County EMS who transported the body to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell and then to Hays for an autopsy.

The incident comes just a week after George Willenberg of Hoisington also drowned at Wilson Lake.
