A three-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of 24th and Washington streets Tuesday.  Two accident victims were airlifted to Wichita’s Via-Christi Hospital following the accident. Great Bend police report an apparent medical condition by a driver triggered the accident at 2:25 p.m. Tuesday.
Sgt. Scott Bieberle, Great Bend police, reports Katharine Piper, 60, Great Bend, was driving eastbound on Washington when her 2001 Honda mini-van struck two vehicles stopped at the intersection. Bieberle said there was no evidence that Piper’s vehicle attempted to stop. A 2002 Buick Park Avenue driven by Linda Schneidewind, 48, Great Bend, was totaled in the accident.
A 2008 Ford Escape driven by Janet Flint, 71, Great Bend, also sustained extensive damage. Bieberle said Piper and Schneidewind were transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital and  later airlifted to Wichita with injuries. Condition reports were not available. Flint declined medical treatment.
Great Bend police, Barton County deputies and local fire and EMS personnel responded to the accident.
