According to information from County Clerk Donna Zimmerman, voters can get an early start on the general election now, because advanced voting is open for Barton County.
“Advance voting is now available in the office of the Barton County Clerk,” according to Zimmerman.
She explained the advanced voting process is simple.
“Now is the time for registered voters in Barton County to apply for advanced ballots for the Nov. 2 general election. Any registered voter may contact the county election officer of Barton County by mail, phone or in person for an application for an advanced voting ballot.”
Zimmerman explained that applications may be downloaded from the county clerk’s web site at: www.bartoncounty.org/clerk/advvote.htm.
Signed applications may be delivered or mailed to the county clerk, or they can be faxed to 793-1990.
When the paper work is completed, an advanced ballot is provided, but only for the voter who is applying, Zimmerman stressed. “An elector cannot apply for a ballot for another voter. An elector can vote in the office of the Barton County Clerk until noon on the day preceding the election.”
This is also the process for those who are physically unable to get out to vote, Zimmerman added. “An application for an advanced ballot for someone who is sick or disabled may be filed during the regular advanced ballot application period until the close of polls on the day of the election. All advanced ballots must be delivered to the county election officer before the close of the polls on the day of the election.”
It’s also possible to see the ballot before voting, Zimmerman explained. “A registered voter may view their ballot for the upcoming election at the Secretary of State’s VOTERVIEW website at: https://myvoteinfo.voteks.org/
“Insert your name and birth date and click on sample ballots.”
Important dates in the election include:
• Friday, Oct. 29 — Deadline to apply for “mailed” advanced ballots.
• Monday, Nov. 1 (noon) — Deadline to vote “in person” in the office of the county clerk in the courthouse.
• Tuesday, Nov. 2 — Deadline for “sick or disabled” voters to apply for an advanced voting ballot.
• Tuesday, Nov. 2 — Advanced ballots must be returned to the County Clerk’s Office on or before 7 p.m.
