Kansas Highway Patrol reports a fatal, two-vehicle crash occurred around 9:19 p.m. Friday in Ellsworth County.
Ethan T. Curnutt, 19, of Kanopolis, was driving west on K-156, about 5.7 miles west of the junction with K-14, in a 2002 Ford F-150 pickup. He approached a red Chevy Silverado pickup stopped in the westbound lane to make a left turn and swerved left. The pickup driven by Curnutt struck an oncoming pickup, driven by Justin M. Nelson, 41, of Booker, Texas, head-on. Nelson sustained a fatal injury and was taken to Parson’s Funeral Home in Ellsworth.
Curnutt was taken to the Ellsworth Medical Center with a suspected minor injury. KHP reports he was not wearing a seat belt.
Four other occupants in the Nelson vehicle, a 2007 Ford F-150, were also injured. Trisha R. Nelson, 40, was taken to Clara Barton Medical Center in Hoisington and Chase Nelson, 12, was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, both with suspected serious injuries. A 5-year-old girl and 13-year-old boy were taken to Clara Barton Medical Center with suspected minor injuries. Everyone in the Nelson vehicle was wearing a safety restraint.
Neither vehicle made contact with the 2002 Chevy Silverado that was stopped to turn.
