KHP patch

A Great Bend motorist was hospitalized Sunday following a head-on collision with a semi in Ford County, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

John Wayne King, 60, was taken to Western Plains Regional Hospital in Dodge City with what appeared to be serious injuries. The other driver, Katorrii Lecharles Tucker, 30, from Monroeville, Alabama, was also taken to the hospital with suspected minor injuries.

The crash occurred at 10:30 a.m. on U.S. 50, 0.7 miles west of 132 Road. King was driving a westbound 2006 Dodge Caravan and went left of center. Tucker was driving east in a 2015 FRHT semi and tried to avoid the crash, but the Caravan hit the semi head-on. Tucker was wearing a seat belt; it was unknown if King was wearing one.
