Hoisington traffic stop leads to drug arrest

A Great Bend woman was arrested Monday when suspected narcotics were discovered in a vehicle following a traffic stop near Hoisington.

According to Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir, At around 6 p.m. Monday, a Barton County Sheriff’s deputy stopped a vehicle for a traffic infraction at milepost 114 on U.S. 281 just south of Hoisington. During the course the investigation, the deputy became suspicious the driver was under the influence of drugs. As a result, a K-9 officer was called to the scene and indicated the presence of controlled substances in the vehicle.

The driver, Virginia Lang, 41, of Great Bend, was transported the Barton County jail without incident where she was booked on charges of driving under the influence, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and no drug tax stamp. Lang is being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
