Kansas Highway Patrol reports minor injuries in Christmas collision

The Kansas Highway Patrol responded to a vehicular crash in Rice County on Christmas Day. Injuries appeared to be minor.

It was reported at 9 a.m. on Dec. 25. The driver of a 2022 Ram 1500, Layne A. Vaughan-Meier, 18, from Lorraine, was southbound on 10th Road and missed the stop sign at the intersection with K-4, 4.5 miles east of Bushton. The Ram struck the side of a 2025 Ford F-250 driven by Gregory A. Akers, 68, of Russell, which was eastbound on K-4.

Vaughan-Meier and passenger Russell W. Lane, 18, from Lorraine, were transported to the Ellsworth Medical Center as the driver complained of pain and Lane suffered what appeared to be minor injuries. Akers and his passenger, Jaye J. Akers, 67, of Russell, had no apparent injuries. All were wearing seat belts. The vehicles were removed by Lyons Wrecker Service.
