The Kansas Highway Patrol responded to two crashes, both with suspected minor injuries, on Christmas Day in Ellsworth County.

At 7:21 p.m., Jose L. Murillo, 47, from Colorado Springs, was driving east on Interstate 70, 1.2 miles east of 5th Road, and lost control of the vehicle due to ice on the roadway. The 2020 Dodge Ram struck a guardrail and came to rest in the median. Although Murillo and an adult female passenger had no apparent injuries, a juvenile who was not wearing a safety restraint sustained a suspected minor injury.

Then at 7:36 p.m., a marked patrol car with emergency equipment activated was responding to a collision and lost control on the ice, entered the ditch and rolled one time on K-14, 0.4 miles north of Ave. H. The driver, Adam M. Macy, 27, of Salina, was taken to the Ellsworth hospital with a suspected minor injury.

All adults in both crashes were wearing safety restraints.
