Local law enforcement officers assisted Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in executing a search warrant Tuesday morning at a Great Bend residence. The Great Bend Police Department and Kansas Bureau of Investigation assisted in securing the residence at 1306 Morton St. at about 6:45 a.m., but representatives of those agencies said this was primarily an ICE case.

ICE is the principal investigative arm of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the second largest investigative agency in the federal government. As such, it handles a wide variety of investigations — not just immigration cases.

Jim Cross, public affairs officer for the U.S. Attorney’s office in Wichita, said no federal criminal charges were filed Tuesday in connection with an ICE investigation in Great Bend. He could neither confirm nor deny the existence of a federal investigation.
