Great Bend Police

A $10 gas skip at 1315 10th St. was reported Thursday afternoon.

A vehicle driven by Catherine Luenberger was northbound in the 2300 block of Washington at 3:12 p.m. Thursday and rear-ended a vehicle driven by Audra Nuckolls that was stopped in traffic.

A hit-and-run vehicle struck a sign at 3519 10th St., it was reported Thursday.

Great Bend Fire Department

A mattress, magazines and clothes were on fire at 171 SE 1 Ave. around 9:30 p.m. Thursday after a candle was accidentally knocked over. Damage was estimated at $500.

Firefighters responded to a large amount of smoke south of Great Bend at 3:10 p.m.; the cause was a controlled burn.

They made three ambulance runs on Thursday.

Barton County Sheriff

A diabetic motorist with a high blood sugar count was driving erratically on U.S. 56 at SW 70 Road, early Thursday evening. The driver was taken home.

A large pile of wood was in the roadway at NW 90 Road and U.S. 281 on Thursday evening. The highway patrol and Hoisington Police Department handled the call.
