Great Bend Fire Department

Firefighters made seven ambulance runs Thursday, eight Friday, three Saturday, two Sunday and five Monday.

There was one false alarm on Saturday.

At 4:37 p.m. Saturday they responded to a garage fire at 909 Kansas Ave. Fire Chief Mike Napolitano reports the first unit to arrive saw heavy smoking coming from the detached single-car garage. The fire, which started at a natural gas grill near the south side of the garage, was quickly extinguished. "Apparently there had been combustible objects too near the grill and the objects ignited." The fire spread to the grass and then to the garage wall.

The fire rekindled about 24 hours later and firefighters were back at the garage on Sunday. Total damage estimate was $7,000.
