Great Bend Fire Department

Firefighters made six ambulance runs and had no fire calls Wednesday.

Wednesday reports:

Batteries were taken from the Barton County Road and Bridge Department’s repair shop at 2401 Seventh St.

A handicap placard was stolen from a vehicle at 2800 Main Lot 5.

A motel employee reported a man had tried to rent a room on Monday using a fake $100 bill.

 

Barton County Sheriff

At 5:34 p.m. Wednesday, officers spotted Kenneth E. Ward of St. John, who was wanted on a Kansas Department of Corrections warrant for an alleged parole violation, on Broadway Ave. near Hubbard St. in Great Bend, and made a traffic stop. Ward fled on foot, running between houses. Great Bend Police officers and a Kansas Highway Patrol officer, along with Barton County Sheriff’s Office deputies, got involved in a brief chase. Ward was subdued with a stun gun and arrested.
