Barton County Sheriff

Thursday, July 14

Horses were picked up on SE 30 Road at Dartmouth Road. A horse on SE 50 Road was not located.

A GMC pickup driven by Kenny Singleton hit a deer half a mile west of the K-4/U.S. 281 junction, around 11:30 p.m.

Friday, July 15

A Chevy van hit a deer 3-4 miles east of Ellinwood on U.S. 56 at 9:45 p.m. Kansas Highway Patrol responded.

Saturday, July 16

A burglary at 674 SW 110 Ave. was reported. An arc welder and welder hat were taken sometime Friday night, and an upstairs window was broken.

An open shed door was discovered at 563 NW 20 Ave. Nothing was missing, but a case was taken for criminal damage to property.

Sunday, July 17

A vehicle driven by John Vonsenclug hit a deer in the 900 block of NE 160 Road (2 miles north and 0.5 miles east of Odin) at 12:44 p.m.

 

Great Bend Police

Friday, July 15

A burglary at 1406 Harding St. was reported. Someone entered the residence and stole miscellaneous items. Total loss was $600.

The owner of a vehicle in the Walmart Parking lot with "adult language" written on the windows was contacted and they removed the writing.

A gas skip involving a silver SUV at 1000 Main was reported at 10:02 a.m.

A subject with a sword strapped to his back was seen walking west on 18th St. at 10:16 a.m. Officers did not make contact.

A known person was served a notice to appear in municipal court for suspected shoplifting.

Items were stolen from vehicles at 5406 Seventh St.

Vehicles driven by Cindy Blake and Joseph Haymaker collided at 12th and Jackson at 6:30 p.m. This was reported as a possible injury accident, but no one was transported.

Golden Belt Humane Society picked up a dog that had been hit by a car somewhere on 10th St. at 11:05 p.m.

A male who was reportedly trying to kill himself was taken into protective custody from the 1400 block of 19th St. at 11:52 p.m. After being evaluated he was taken to Larned State Hospital.

Saturday, July 16

A missing person report was filed for Sheri Haavisto, 24.

Someone scratched a vehicle at 5840 Cherry Place

A known person was served a notice to appear for alleged shoplifting at Walmart.

A theft was reported at 1438 20th St.

Theft of a tag from 2617 Quivira Ave. was reported.

A child was transported for medical care after swallowing a penny.

A window on the residence at 1821 Van Buren St. was broken.

Sunday, July 17

A hit-and-run vehicle struck a parked vehicle at 3806 Broadway.

 

Great Bend Fire Department

Firefighters made five ambulance runs last Tuesday, eight Wednesday, three Thursday, eight Friday, three Saturday and one Sunday.

On Friday and Saturday, firefighters provided mutual aid to Pawnee Rock. They also responded to a small fire Friday in the back yard at 1215 Jefferson St.

At 6:04 p.m. on Sunday they responded to 10th and Main, for a vehicle that had hot brakes. The owner had already used an extinguisher to put the fire out.
