Great Bend Fire Department

Firefighters made six ambulance runs Friday, four Saturday and nine Sunday.

At 10:04 a.m. Friday they checked a smoke smell on Liberty Road. Nothing was found.

At 12:48 p.m. Friday they responded to a structure fire at 906 Ninth street. Chief Mike Napolitano reports two boys, 4 and 7 years old, had been playing with a lighter inside a bedroom and started some clothes on fire. The grandmother discovered the fire and used a garden hose to extinguished it. Damages were estimated at $200.

At 8:28 a.m. Saturday, firefighters went to 910 Madison St. where a homeowner was burning tree limbs. Since no burning is allowed in the city, the fire was extinguished.

 

Barton County Sheriff

Two radiators and a battery were stolen from 8 NW 100 Road, it was reported Friday.

A battery involving three males was reported at 1:47 a.m. Saturday at the House bar, 206 North U.S. 281.

A Mercury Tracer was involved in a non-injury rollover accident in the intersection of NE 25 Road and 20 Ave., it was reported at 3:32 a.m. Saturday.

Criminal damage to a vehicle at 395 North U.S. 281 was reported at 6:23 a.m. Saturday. It was later reported that the vehicle had been stolen and wrecked. The vehicle, a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer was recovered around 9:40 a.m.

A motorist swerved to miss a deer on NW 40 Ave. and K-96 at 6:25 a.m. Saturday, and the vehicle struck a guardrail.

A car hit a deer just north of 24th St. and K-96, shortly before 10 a.m. Saturday. Kansas Highway Patrol responded.

A vehicle hit a deer on East K-4 and NE 20 Ave. at 11:45 a.m. Saturday.

The entry pad on a vehicle door at 4 NW 30 Road was broken off, it was reported Saturday afternoon.

A vehicle hit a deer in the 700 block of NW K-96 at 5:54 a.m. Sunday.

Four air conditioners were stolen from 407 Centre St. in Pawnee Rock, it was reported Sunday.

 

Great Bend Police

Theft of fuel and beer at 5200 10th St. was reported at 9:34 a.m. Friday.

A vehicle driven by Lenard Jones was backing west in the 2500 block of Ninth St. at 2 p.m. Friday and hit an eastbound vehicle driven by Kenneth Elson.

A vehicle driven by Cody Smith was eastbound on 10th St. at 7:06 p.m. Friday and struck a vehicle driven by Dereck Hollingshed, who was eastbound stopped in traffic in the 600 block.

Theft of a stereo from a Mack truck at 2421 10th St. was reported Friday. The reporting party later said there was damage to the antenna and steering column as well.

A burglary at Hejny Retail Liquor Store, 821 Main, was reported at 3:41 a.m. Saturday. Someone broke a window at took items from the business.

At 3:45 a.m. Saturday, dispatch received a report of a bat in a residence in the 2700 block of 19th St. It was chased out the front door.

A motorist said his brakes gave out and he rear-ended another vehicle on 10th St. at 7:57 a.m. Saturday.

An unknown driver struck a vehicle in the Walmart parking lot Saturday morning. There was also a hit-and-run in front of the Panther Athletic Center, 2027 Morton.

Theft of lost property was reported Saturday. A lost wallet was returned with several credit cards taken.

An aggravated battery at 5844 16th St. Terrace was reported at 4:33 p.m. Saturday. The suspect, Jessica Schmitt, left in a car but was later arrested.

Theft of stereo equipment from 1606 21st St. was reported Saturday.

A child on a bike was hit by a car in the 1600 block of Stone St. at 9:17 p.m. Saturday, but was not injured.

A motorist reported running into a large herd of cattle in the 800 block of NW 100 Ave. at 10:22 p.m. Saturday. The vehicle was not damaged.

Someone kicked in the front door to 1217 Adams St., it was reported Sunday.

An 18-year-old male was reportedly drunk and battered several people, at 2:26 a.m. Sunday at 2110 25th St. He was arrested for minor consuming alcohol and served notices to appear in municipal court for battery.

A vehicle driven by Madesto Vujanda was westbound on 10th St. and struck a vehicle driven by Justin Richardson, who was eastbound on 10th turning north, at 1:34 p.m. Sunday.

Police are investigating a report of a 6-year-old male child being sexually abused by a relative.

A gas skip at 2334 Main St. was reported at 4:32 p.m. Sunday. The suspect vehicle was a brown Jeep Cherokee.

Theft of a 1993 Chevy S-10 in Great Bend was reported; the pickup was located Sunday evening at Stone Lake and released to the owner.

A burglary at 1916 Baker Ave. was reported Sunday. A laptop computer was taken.
