Great Bend Fire Department

Firefighters made four ambulance runs on Wednesday.

At 12:08 p.m. they responded to the compost site, where a pile of wood chips was on fire.

At 3:20 p.m. there was a small fire on the east side of the McDonald’s restaurant.

At 3:37 p.m. they responded to 1007 Williams for a smoke smell.

At 9:25 p.m. they responded to a mutual aid call from the Albert fire department for additional water. They had some hay stacks on fire at SW 90 avenue and West Barton County Road.

At 3:43 a.m. Thursday they checked on arcing power lines in the 2200 block of Railroad Avenue.

 

Great Bend Police

Wednesday reports:

A window was broken on a truck at 1301 McKinley St.

A window was broken on a car at 1447 Lakin Ave.

A hit-and-run vehicle struck a parked vehicle at an unknown location

A vehicle driven by Christina Rincon was backing from a private drive at 1000 Grant St. at 3:42 p.m. and struck a vehicle driven by Betty Ward, which was southbound on Grant.

Police were dispatched to a reported disturbance at 1122 Frey St. at 5:12 p.m. Doug Kelly, 40, Great Bend, reportedly battered at 20-year-old male and endangered a child. He was booked into the Barton County Jail on the endangerment charge, in lieu of $1,000 bond.

A woman in Great Bend said a camera, watch, iPod and change were stolen from her luggage somewhere between Jamaica and Wichita. Loss was $1,996.

Police were dispatched to a Great Bend residence on a possible aggravated assault/criminal restraint at 2:02 a.m. Thursday. A 19-year-old woman reported a known male threatening her with a gun and holding onto her arm until police arrived. However, she did not wish to prosecute.

 

Barton County Sheriff

Officers and a game warden responded to a report of poaching in the 300 block of NW 40 Ave., around 11:35 p.m. Wednesday. Two men were reportedly seen shooting turkeys where they should not be. Tickets were issued to two men from Arizona, and the guns were taken.

There was a non-injury accident on private property in the 1100 block of NW 50 Road around 9:10 p.m. on Wednesday. One adult male was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

At 5:27 a.m. Thursday, a motorist hit a deer at mile marker 113 on U.S. 281.
