Firefighters responded to Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 4100 Broadway Ave., at 3:11 p.m. Thursday, when an asphalt paver caught on fire. Chief Mike Napolitano said flames could be seen on the left side of the machine, which is owned by Venture Corp.
“The fire was extinguished; however, the asphalt paver was leaking hydraulic fluid out of several burnt hoses,” Napolitano said. “The city street department arrived with some sand which was used to make a dike to keep the water and hydraulic fluid from going into the city drainage.” Venture Corp. is taking care of the cleanup.
There were four ambulance runs.
