Great Bend Fire Department

Smoke coming from the riverbed in the 4700 block of Railroad Ave. at 3:30 p.m. Friday alerted firefighters to burning grass and tree debris.

GBFD assisted the Ellinwood Fire Department at 12:55 p.m. Saturday at 395 SE 90 Ave. by helping with the water supply as a controlled burn was brought back under control.

A fire was reported at 12:52 p.m. Sunday at 1423 8th St. Grass was on fire next to a residence but the homeowner was using a fire extinguisher to contain it when firefighters arrived.

A fire was reported at 3:03 p.m. Sunday at the City of Great Bend Compost Site, 97 SW 5 Ave. The compost was smoldering and had started a grass fire on the berm.


Great Bend Police

A search warrant was executed at 9:20 a.m. Friday at 2416 16th St., followed by a warrant arrest at Best Western Angus Inn, 2920 10th St., at 9:47 a.m. Barton County Sheriff’s Office also responded. Police received a report at 1:17 p.m. Friday of an elderly motorist swerving on 10th Street. The motorist was contacted an had recently had eye surgery. Other driving arrangements were made.

Mariah Viegra was arrested during a traffic stop at 4:07 p.m. Friday at Lakin and Williams. She was booked for possession of marijuana, driving while her license was suspended, and no drug tax stamp. Viegra was released after posting a $2,500 bond through A-1 Bonding.

A criminal trespass/domestic violence arrest was made at 9:05 p.m. Friday after Joshua Anderson reportedly entered a residence at 1416 Lakin Ave. He was released Saturday after posting a $500 surety bond through Around the Clock Bail Bonds.

An individual was taken into protective custody at 11:38 p.m. Friday and transported to Larned State Hospital.

Tires were slashed sometime overnight outside Kensington Square apartments, 2808 Adams St., it was reported Saturday.

A sex offense was reported at 10:05 a.m. Saturday.

A non-injury crash was reported at 12:06 p.m. Saturday in the 5300 block of 10th St. Henriche Pilling was eastbound on 10th Street and drove into a large trench in the roadway due to construction.

A non-injury crash was reported when a vehicle driven by Debra Owen was northbound on Harrison at 12:16 p.m. Saturday and rear-ended a vehicle driven by Howard Bowman, who was stopped on a stop sign at 24th and Harrison.

A window was broken on the attached garage at 2526 19th St.

A sex offense was reported at 3:22 p.m. Saturday.

A burglary in progress was reported at 8:21 p.m. Saturday at 3116 Lakin Ave.

Police received a report at 5:25 a.m. Sunday that a vehicle had struck a utility pole at 2nd and Maple.

Theft of a red Chevy Silverado was reported at 1:04 p.m. Sunday. The vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run crash with no driver identified on Saturday. The vehicle was impounded.

A Child In Need of Care case was taken Sunday.

A vehicle driven by Daniel Reyes was northbound in the 700 block of McKinely St. at 5:29 p.m. Sunday and reportedly struck another northbound vehicle, driven by Sarah Roach, while changing lanes. No injuries were reported.

A theft at Discount Laundry, 924 Jefferson St., was reported at 7:51 p.m. Sunday.


Barton County Sheriff

A search warrant was executed at 9:20 a.m. Friday at 2416 16th St., Great Bend, and then the K-9 unit was dispatched to Best Western Angus Inn, 2920 10th St., where an arrest was made.

The K-9 unit was dispatched to 19th and Main, Great Bend, at 12:38 p.m. Friday.

A non-injury crash was reported at 5:30 p.m. Friday at NE 110 Ave. and NE 10 Road, Ellinwood.

A battery was reported at 11:27 p.m. Friday at Lindy’s Pest Control, 1017 Harding St., Great Bend.

A battery was reported at midnight (12:01 a.m. Saturday) at 1385 Kinzel St. in Odin.

An injury crash was reported at 10:57 a.m. Saturday on West U.S. 56 near mile marker 194.5, Pawnee Rock.

A burglary not in progress was reported at 11:03 a.m. Saturday at 615 Railroad Ave., Great Bend.

A non-injury crash was reported at 9:24 p.m. Saturday on East U.S. 56 near mile marker 224, rural Chase.

A theft was reported at 11:10 a.m. Sunday at Mac’s Tee Box, 156 North U.S. 281.
