Great Bend Fire Department

 

Firefighters made two ambulance runs last Wednesday, six Thursday, six Friday, eight Saturday and four Sunday.

At 3:22 p.m. Wednesday they responded to True Value on K-96, where sparks started a display of hay bales on fire while a crew was working on the sign out front.

On Thursday firefighters checked a smoke smell at 384 Washington Rd. at 2 p.m. and at 5:30 p.m. they responded to a small grass fire at Broadway and McKinley.

 

Other fires

Hoisington and Claflin fire departments responded when a controlled burn along K-4 got out of control, last Wednesday around 6:10 p.m.

Hoisington Fire Department responded to a ditch fire on the east side of U.S. 281 across from the 4-H Building at 6:54 p.m. Saturday.

 

Barton County Sheriff

Unauthorized use of a debit card was reported last week.

A burglary at 2199 Susank Road was reported Saturday. Someone entered Francis Urban Tank Service, causing approximately $50 in damage.

A purse found in the ditch on NE 10 Road near NE 10 Ave. was returned to its owner, who reported it stolen, on Saturday. The only thing that appeared to be missing was about $4 in change.

Suspected narcotics were found in a vehicle after a traffic stop on SE 10 Road near SE 60 Ave., around 7:45 a.m. Sunday.

A Mercedes 300 was rolled onto its side in a field near SW 20 Road and SW 50 Ave., it was reported Sunday night. No one was injured.

 

Great Bend Police

Last Wednesday a woman at 5501 Ninth St. No. 69 reported the key she hid in her vehicle was broken off in the ignition and the CD player had been stolen.

A vehicle driven by Rose Yager was eastbound on 19th St. at 10:31 a.m. Wednesday and struck a vehicle parked illegally in the roadway near Great Bend High School.

A 6-year-old male pit bulldog worth $400 was reportedly stolen from the yard at 2521 24th St.

A hit-and-run vehicle struck a legally parked vehicle at 2813 16th St., it was reported Thursday.

Chelsea Roacha was driving west on 10th St. at 4:45 p.m. Thursday and struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Sharon Bautista, who was also westbound in the 3200 block.

Kayla Baxley was driving south on Baker Ave. at 5:52 p.m. Thursday and struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Kristi Stumps, who was also southbound near 10th St.

A Jobox-brand tool chest containing tools was stolen from 323 Fruit St., it was reported Thursday.

Drew Marinueau was driving north in the 1700 block of Morton St. at 11:51 p.m. Thursday and struck a parked vehicle.
