Nintendo President and CEO Satoru Iwata died at 55 years old this week after a battle with cancer, according to Time magazine. Iwatas death puts an end to his 13-year run as the head of the video game company that created popular video game titles like "Super Smash Bros" under his watch.

Iwata will be remembered for his hands-on approach to leading the company, and for his playful, almost mischievous and refreshingly candid personal style that made him popular among Nintendo workers and fans alike, according to Time magazine.

In recent years, Iwata wanted to publish video games that encouraged a healthy way of life, according to Nintendo Life. And he planned on expanding Nintendo into areas of education to help gamers learn more through video games, Nintendo Life reported.

That makes sense given that recent research has found video games teach youngsters to be more sociable, happy and less hyperactive, according to an Oxford study cited by The Telegraph.
