Elsa remained a favorite, cracking the top 500 names in 2014 in 286th position the first time the name has enjoyed such popularity since the early 20th century, as The New York Times reported.
Yet Elsa, her sister Anna and the rest of the "Frozen" gang are hardly the first Disney-related names to be bestowed on American newborns. Since the early 1990s surge of iconic fairy tale films to Pixar films, Disney characters have always made popular baby names.
Both Ariel and Jasmine skyrocketed in popularity after becoming Disney princess monikers. Even before that, 1943 saw a record five baby Bambis born in the wake of the Disney film.
Names for male Disney characters don't always enjoy a surge in popularity, however. Take Eric, for example, the name of the prince in "The Little Mermaid." A fairly popular name in the U.S., Eric continues to slide despite its association with the Disney film from an all-time high in the 1970s.
