GLOUCESTER, England For a British father, a personal mission to find the person responsible for a hit and run involving his little boy quickly turned into a nightmare.
The culprit, he discovered, was none other than himself.
The accident happened as Jamie Ellison was pulling out of his driveway to take his two daughters to school last week, the Mirror reports. As he backed into the road, he struck his 15-month-old son without noticing and then continued on to school.
The baby was left on the side of the road until someone walking in the neighborhood saw him and called for help, according to the Mirror.
When Ellison returned home, he found paramedics and police attending to his injured boy. Devastated and furious, he took to his Facebook page to spread the word with hopes someone could help him bring the person involved to justice.
I beg anyone who was on Hesters Way Road between 8:30 and 8:40 doing school runs or catching a bus to please call the police and help find who did this to my little man, he wrote.
It didnt take police long to find the driver who hit the little boy closed-circuit television footage of the street caught the entire incident on camera and revealed Ellisons tragic mistake.
Once again, the distraught father took to Facebook.
I just didnt see him or feel a bump, he wrote. My two daughters in the car also didnt see or hear him, so imagine how I feel right now to be told that I accidentally ran over my own son.
Luckily the babys injuries were not life-threatening, and he was expected to make a full recovery. Ellison, however, said hell never get over what happened.
The guilt will be with me forever, he wrote.
Police determined the incident was unintentional and will not file criminal charges against Ellison, the Mirror reports.
