WASHINGTON No matter your political affiliations, its safe to say this election year has been a divisive one.
But a funny and fairly sweet moment between current President Barack Obama and former President George W. Bush is a nice reminder that were all just people trying to do people things.
The moment took place during dedication events for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture Saturday. The ceremony was breaking up, and Obama and Bush were shaking hands and chatting with guests.
In the video, you can see Bush trying to take a selfie with a couple of guests, but he just cant seem to get it right. (I am also selfie-deficient, so absolutely no disrespect to Bush.) Like any normal, everyday person would do, Bush grabbed the person in closest proximity to him to take the picture. Of course, that turned out to be the POTUS himself.
Graciously and without hesitation, Obama grabs the cellphone like a pro and takes the picture. Just a friend helping a friend out. Of course, the video went viral.
To me, the best part of this whole amazing interaction is that Obama doesnt mess around with any portrait nonsense and immediately turns the phone to landscape. Now thats a smart man in action.
This video is a sort of companion piece to the viral image during the same event with first lady Michelle Obama giving Bush a hug that points to friendly familiarity, which is also worth a gander.
After two regular human moments going viral after the opening of an important museum, theres only one thing left to say Thanks, Obamas.
