SPRINGFIELD Its true, some people cringe and mock when they hear the word "hipster," but not me, because its those hipsters who look to the past to bring things I loved back to the forefront with a fresh take.

So it is with three artists who work in 8-bit pixels and herky-jerky electronic music as seen and heard in early video games. These men used these styles to create a faithful homage to the opening of The Simpsons, and its spectacular.

I personally cant think of anything that would improve upon their homage, as each sequence is faithfully re-created with touches of 8-bit game shoutouts. And in true Simpsons spirit, not only do the artists include an appropriate, self-referential chalkboard gag, but their couch gag is out of this world.

Even though we were not allowed game consoles at our house growing up, and we had to sneak-watch The Simpsons, both the medium and the subject bring back days of yore and childhood glee. Plus the video satisfies my yen to see things that Im not willing to spend the time to create myself. Thanks, Internet!

It is at this time I choose to thank my neighbors across the street for letting me play Joust, Montezumas Revenge and Donkey Kong on their Atari. For that, dear neighbors, you will always have a special place in my heart.
