But when your own mother isnt around or unable to step up to the plate, what does one do? A New York City woman is willing to be a mother to anyone, for an hourly fee.
Nina Keneally got the idea for her new business, Need A Mom, when she and her husband moved from Connecticut to New York City two years ago, according to Today. As shed go about her daily errands, shed run into 20- and 30-somethings who just wanted to talk something she was always happy to do.
New York can be the loneliest town sometimes, Keneally told Today. Its so full of people, but sometimes it seems like everyone else is busy and out having a great time and no one has time to talk. You just need someone to be there for you.
Keneally launched Need A Mom last week. For $40 an hour, Keneally will step into the maternal role, providing services like listening over a cup of coffee, ironing your shirts, watching movies with you and serving you a hot slice of pie, according to her site.
Shell even buy your real moms holiday and birthday gifts for you, promising to take care of the wrapping and shipping as well.
One thing she wont do, she says, is judge. After all, Need A Moms motto is: When you need a mom just not YOUR mom.
Its the mother without the baggage, Keneally said. Empathy and listening to people comes to me naturally, and I really enjoy young adults.
On her site, Keneally promises not to question your lifestyle choices, judge your hair, wardrobe or friends, compare you to your siblings or ask you to be in a selfie with her. She does, however, have her limits.
Im not going to clean your bathroom, she told Today. Im not going to do your laundry. Im not your maid, as any good mother would say.
