THE SWAMP A recording of Chris Farleys original dialogue from Dreamworks Shrek recently resurfaced after the debut of the documentary, I Am Chris Farley.
The Shrek we know and love today as voiced by Mike Meyers with a Scottish brogue is not the Shrek originally scripted for the movie. The first script told the story of a teenage ogre longing for acceptance so he could eventually become a knight, and the role was intended for Chris Farley.
Originally, the Shrek character was a little bit more like Chris, like a humble, bumbling innocent guy, Chris Farleys brother, Kevin Farley, told Yahoo!
In fact, Chris Farley reportedly recorded most of the dialogue an estimated 80-90 percent before he died in 1997 at age 33 after a drug overdose. It's speculated that the studio scrapped Chris Farleys recordings for "Shrek" which would have been Chris Farley's last movie and opted for a new voice in order to leave the door open for sequels.
Kevin Farley also said in the interview that his family has never heard the recordings, which may be why a small sample of Chris Farleys dialogue, which was first posted two years ago, has garnered renewed interest.
John Garbett, a development producer at Dreamworks, originally posted the video, which includes rough storyboarded scenes and Eddie Murphy as Donkey.
I Am Chris Farley premiered at theaters last weekend and will also air on the Spike network on Aug. 10.
