SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. When an Arizona teen faced a last-minute prom dress emergency, a major blast from the past came to her rescue.
Olivia Parker knew exactly what she wanted when she went in search of a prom dress this year. From the time she was a little girl, she adored the sleeveless, calf-length black dress her mother had worn to her own prom back in 1991, according to Today.
Olivias mom, Brande Walker, got the dress for a steal at a department stores going-out-of-business sale. Olivia tried it on all the time as a child and dreamed of wearing one just like it someday, she told Today.
The teen found her dream dress a red gown similar to the one she grew up coveting and all seemed right with the world until she picked up her dress from the dry cleaner, only to find a giant stain.
It looked like they had burned it, Olivia told Today.
With just hours to go before the big dance, Olivia desperately began searching her mothers closet. When she came across the inspiration for her ruined dress, she knew she had to at least try it on.
As luck would have it, for the first time in Olivias life, the dress fit like a glove, as evidenced by the photos she posted on her Facebook page.
It was really emotional for both of us, she told Today. I looked in the mirror and cried and then she started to cry. Ive always dreamed of wearing it, but never thought itd fit, and now my dream was coming true.
Olivia and her perfect dress had a fabulous time at the dance, surrounded by admirers who couldnt get enough of her vintage look. And while she felt beautiful, Olivia also felt a connection to her mom that shell never forget.
I loved twirling in the dress and thinking about my mom twirling in it at her prom, she said. It made the night even more special.
