Celebrity actress Jessica Biel just revealed her secrets to losing baby weight.
Headlines this past summer pointed out how Biel had lost so much of her baby weight after giving birth to her and Justin Timberlakes son, Silas Randall Timberlake.
At that time, Biels personal trainer admitted to E! Online that he was working with the actress a few times a week to keep her physically active. He specifically pointed to his fitness studio, Rise Nation, which specifically looks to help women in Hollywood lose their post-baby weight, according to E!
Over the weekend, while walking the red carpet at a fashion show event with her husband, Biel said she was staying physically active and that embracing an organic diet, similar to the Paleo diet, helped her lose the weight, according to the Examiner.
"Ive always been physical," Biel told reporters at the event. "I have no concept of what life is like without physical activity."
She also used a farm-to-table meal delivery service called Paleta to help her lose weight.
Biel also said at the fashion show that cutting down on portions and having better portion control also helped her keep the pounds off, according to the Examiner.
"Eat things you like, but in smaller portions, Biel told reporters, according to the Examiner. "I always cut things in half and send half back. Do I eat dessert? If there's something I want to try, then I try it. But I have a bite, not the whole thing."
Losing baby weight isnt an easy thing for many American women. In fact, a 2015 study from the University of Chicago found that 75 percent of women weighed more one year after they gave birth.
The study, which looked at about 800 women from across the United States, found that one year after their pregnancy, about half of those mothers were 10 pounds overweight and 25 percent were 25 pounds overweight, KSL reported.
But there are simple tricks for mothers to lose weight. For example, The New York Times reported in 2009, breastfeeding can help some mothers burn calories.
That breast-feeding gives mothers an edge shedding baby weight has long been suspected, according to the Times. But lately, a parade of celebrities has attributed their postpartum slimming to nursing, bringing this age-old topic back into the spotlight. Adding to the conversation is a large study that suggests that weight loss through breast-feeding is not a myth.
That study comes from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, cited by the Times, which found that the more a mother breastfeeds, the more likely she is to reduce her weight six months after giving birth.
Breastfeeding isnt the only way new mothers can help themselves avoid weight gain. According to WebMD, new mothers should try to avoid strict diets since the stresses from diets wont help the already stressful times of new parenthood.
Instead, new mothers should eat a healthy assortment of foods, with a heavy emphasis on superfoods, like fish, WebMD explained.
When you're a new mother, your body needs maximum nutrition, especially if you're nursing. Choose foods that are heavy in the nutrients you need and light in calories and fat, according to WebMD.
WebMD also suggests new mothers drink as much water as possible so that it fills them up and helps their metabolism.
And, as Biel suggested, new mothers will also want to stay physically active, according to WebMD.
"Exercise, beyond helping you lose weight, provides so many benefits to a new mom," Melinda Johnson, spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association, told WebMD. "It helps with depression, it helps with the sleep issue it helps in relieving stress and having a new baby in the house can definitely be stressful."
Parenting advice website What To Expect also suggests new parents set weekly weight loss goals to make the task less daunting. And new parents may also want to seek out other new mothers who are also looking to lose weight so that they have support, according to What To Expect.
Most importantly, What To Expect suggests new mothers stay patient and take their time in losing weight.
So no matter how long it takes you to retire your pregnancy jeans, try not to get frustrated, What To Expect suggests. While pregnancy might leave you with permanent stretch marks on your belly and slightly less perky breasts, healthy habits can help you shape up otherwise. And keep motivated by reminding yourself that you have created a fabulous human being who adores you all of you so instead of staring at your tummy, take a peek at your beautiful baby and cut yourself some slack.
