LOS ANGELES A California 4-year-old went to great lengths to distract his little sister from the stress of an automatic car wash, and a video of the adorable exchange has gone viral.
Little Declan Price is a drive-through car wash veteran. According to his mom, Alyssa Price, they get the car cleaned about once a month, so the booming sound of water, soap and dryers is nothing but white noise to him now.
Not the case for 2-year-old sister Raleigh, who normally naps right through the chaos, Price told Today. When the time came to make their monthly stop last week, Raleigh was wide awake and grew increasingly anxious as the car entered the wash.
It didn't take long before the toddler fully lost it.
"I did not realize how frightened Raleigh would be but by the time she really started crying there was a line of cars behind us so the only way home was to drive through," Price told the Daily Mail.
That's when big brother jumped to the rescue, and mom had the good sense to start recording.
"Raliegh," Declan says in the video Price captured. "We are going to get home very fast. We won't die!"
Declan proceeds to grab his sister's hand as she goes from wailing to smiling to cautiously assessing back to wailing again.
"Don't cry," he says, pointing to cars ahead of them that make it out alive. "See, it's not so scary."
"She is a loud and fierce crier and I couldn't help but document her car wash reaction," Price told the Daily Mail. "Declan offering her moral support was just extra cuteness to boot."
Raleigh yells, "home!" a few times, to which Declan responds: "We are going to go home, but we need to go home that way."
When Raleigh really starts to get hysterical, Declan insists, "We're going to be OK! It's just a car wash."
Price's adorable video has gone viral as of Wednesday morning it had racked up more than 26,000 views.
The proud Los Angeles-based mom told Today that while she was delighted by Declan's actions, she wasn't a bit surprised.
"He's always showing me how to be a better mom, and how to be kind," she said.
And just like Declan promised, Raleigh did survive the experience.
"Do you want to do that again sometime?" Declan asks.
"Yeah," Raleigh responds.
