HOISINGTON — Agnes Marie (Oberle) Hickel Hickey, 92, died Dec. 22 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born May 3, 1921 in Rice County, she was the daughter of Anton and Lena (Feist) Oberle.
Agnes, a homemaker, has been a Hoisington resident since 1975 coming from the farm in rural Rice County. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Altar Society, Daughters of Isbella, all of Hoisington, and Eagles Auxiliary of Great Bend. Agnes enjoyed gardening, playing the accordion, crocheting, cooking, sewing, canning, baking, doing ceramics and painting.
She married Fred Hickel on Nov. 5, 1940 at Bushton. He preceded her in death on May 20, 1972. She later married Sylvester Hickey in Nov. of 1978 at Hoisington. He preceded her in death in July of 1986.
Survivors include four sons: Michael Hickel of Susank, Kenneth Hickel and wife Carol of Great Bend, Dennis Hickel of Claflin, Ron Hickel and companion June Stevens of Ellinwood; four daughters: Janice Nichols of Great Bend, Agnes Sheridan and husband Tom of McPherson, Nancy Dimina and husband Frank of St. Petersburg, Fla., Mary K. Rupe and husband Terry of Claflin; two step-daughters: Ruth Berens and Patricia Schultz; two brothers: Victor Oberle and wife Mary Rose, Paul Oberle and wife Ann both of Claflin; two sisters-in-law: Evelyn Cox of Arizona and Catherine Demel of Odin; 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers: George, Joe, Tony, Oscar, Elmer, Robert, and one grandson, Darin Hickel.
Vigil service followed by an Altar Society and D of I rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington with Father Anselm Eke and Father Pascal Klein as concelebrants. Burial will follow at Holy Name Cemetery in Bushton. Friends may call Thursday, Dec. 26, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
