Aleen Loraine Bitter, 88, died December 29, 2021, in her husband’s loving arms, at her home in Great Bend. She was born March 9, 1933, in Hoisington, the daughter of Theobald “Ted” and Martha (Radke) Nuss. Aleen graduated from Hoisington High School in 1951.
On June 15, 1952, she married Elmer E. Bitter at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Susank, Kansas.
Aleen was a lifetime Barton County resident, working as a legal secretary. She worked for Lee Turner, and Jerry Griffith and then later for the County Attorney’s Office retiring after 20 plus years. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.
Survivors include; her husband of 69 years, Elmer E. Bitter of the home; son, Mark Bitter and wife Chris of Great Bend; daughter, Rhonda Bitter of Norman, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Denise Bitter of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Cori Miller, Lacey Bonine, Klint Bitter, and Jeremy Brewer; and five great grandchildren, Cora, Brynn, and Ellie Bitter, and Madalyn and Alexander Bonine.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Glenn Ray Bitter.
Visitation will be Sunday 1 to 7 p.m., with family to greet friends from 6 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 3, 2022, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Hoisington, with Pastor Gary Wolf presiding. Burial will follow in Hoisington Cemetery.
