ALBERT — Alvin K. Schettler, 86, died Sept. 6, 2016, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born April 30, 1930, at Stoughton, Saskatchewan, Canada, he was the son of the Rev. Kurt G. and Louise (Schempp) Schettler. On Oct. 19, 1952, he married Janet Read at Belgrade, Neb. An Albert resident since 1965, Mr. Schettler was a Booster Station Plant Operator for Natural Gas Pipeline Company and retired from Occidental Petroleum in 1996.
Mr. Schettler was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Schettler, of the home; two sons, Mike Schettler and his wife Terri of Great Bend, and David Schettler and his wife Nola of Omaha, Neb.; one daughter, Nancy Brady and her husband Dale of Albert; one brother, Paul Schettler and his wife Jeannie of Columbus, Neb.; six grandchildren, Brandy Maneth and her husband Mike, Kim Duran and her husband Paul, Matthew Schettler and his wife Jessica, Michael Schettler and his companion Keleigh, Cait Boyer and her husband Brian and Jayme Mayers and her husband Jason; and seven great-grandchildren, Bryce Maneth, Kolton Maneth, Hannah Duran, Brady Duran, Sammi Mayers, Alex Mayers and Stevie Mayers. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Schettler and Hilda Tittel.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend with the Reverend Jon Brudvig officiating. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery North. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., on Thursday at Bryant Funeral Home.
