Ancil Wilber Baker 1915 -2011

Ancil Wilber Baker, 96, died June 1 at Medicalodges Eudora in Eudora. He was born Jan 17., 1915 at Gilbert, Ark., the son of George M. and Nettie Jo (Cross) Baker.

He married Hazel Helen Gray on Aug. 14., 1935 at Bruno, Ark. She died Dec. 4, 2003. He managed on-base housing at Mountain Home Air Force Base Idaho for the Civil Service.

Mr. Baker was a Great Bend resident since 1991, coming from Mountain Home. He was United States Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge #15, Sunflower Shrine Club, Greeters Shrine Club and PHMA International.

Survivors include two sisters, Frieda May McGee of Eudora and Mary Fay Reeves of Lawrence. He was preceded in death by one sister Hazel Calvert.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Friday at Bryant Funeral Home. The officiant will be the Reverend Dr. Doyle Smith. Interment will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. to service time on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home.
