Anna Lavonne Postlethwaite, aged 97 years, 3 months and 19 days, died Sept. 24, 2014 at Kansas Medical Center, Andover. She was born June 5, 1917, at Barton County, the daughter of Ralph L. & Eva R. (Ward) Ward.
Mrs. Postlethwaite grew up on farms in the Seward and St. John area. She married John L. Postlethwaite Jr. July 20, 1941, at Great Bend.  He died Oct. 21, 2005. Residing in Great Bend following their marriage, she was not only a devoted wife, but also was a secretary and bookkeeper for Culligan Water Conditioning in Great Bend, for 42 years.
She and her husband, John, were co-founders of the First Church of God, along with brother Bill and sister Ruby Wilburn, with the first church meeting in the Postlethwaite home in January 1950.  Anna served her Lord in the church, not only as a co-founder, but as secretary-treasurer for forty years, president of the women’s group, youth sponsor, janitor, Sunday School teacher, organist and pianist, and various other duties. She loved quilting with the church group.  She will be sorely missed not only by her family, but as a patient listener and fellow worker for Jesus Christ.
Survivors include one brother, Harold R. Ward and his wife Jolene of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two nieces, Brenda Fry of Wichita, and Chana Scantlin of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and two nephews, Scott Ward and Brett Ward, both of St. John.  She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Wesley and Nina Marie Ward.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 29, at First Church of God in Great Bend, with the Reverends Tom Swain and Dick Ogle officiating. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 28, at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to First Church of God, in care of Bryant Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
