GREAT BEND — Arlene A. Mingenback, 92, died Jan. 10, 2013 in Great Bend.
Born Dec. 21, 1920 in Springfield, Colo., she was the daughter of Guy E. and Bertha (Hill) Finkle, M.D.
She was a graduate of McPherson College with a degree in home economics and was a high school teacher prior to her marriage to John Joseph Mingenback, D. D. S., on March 4, 1944 in Denver, Colo. He died April 15, 2001.
A devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, Mrs. Mingenback was a Great Bend resident since 1950. She loved learning and had a wide range of interests from sewing, cooking, gardening, studying the stock market and investments, ballroom dancing and traveling. Never tiring of trying a new hobby or staying informed about local and national news, she was an avid reader and fan of national current affairs broadcasts.
Mrs. Mingenback was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church, Episcopal Church Women, PEO Chapter DU, Progress Club, and Bloomer Girls, having held many leadership positions within the service organizations throughout her life.
Survivors include a son, Mark G. Mingenback and his wife Leslie, Great Bend; a daughter, Marla Mingenback Sheiner, San Francisco, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Mary Fries Mingenback, Emporia; a sister, Maryann Finkle Shutler, Lawrence; five grandchildren, Patti Mingenback and her husband Wasim Zaman, Overland Park, Andy Mingenback and his wife Tina, Great Bend, Matt Mingenback and his wife Brooke, Fort Worth, Texas, and Samantha Sheiner and A. J. Sheiner, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; and three great-grandchildren, Alyvia Mingenback, Ravi Zaman, and Georgia Mingenback.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Michael K. Mingenback.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at St. Johns Episcopal Church in Great Bend with the Rev. Phyllis Flory officiating. Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may visit from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bryant Funeral Home.
