HAYS — Bernice Rupp, 83, died Feb. 29 at St. Francis South Campus Hospital on Indianapolis, Ind. Born April 20, 1928, in Emmeram, she was the daughter of August V. and Marie (Always) Weigel. On Nov. 9, 1948 she married Linus J. Rupp in Emmeram and later separated. She was a graduate of Victoria High School. A resident of Colorado and Wyoming before moving back to Hays in 1977, she was a waitress most of her life, working at the Golden Ox and Everybody’s restaurants both in Hays. She retired in 1994. She played in a polka dance band for a number of years, enjoyed word search puzzles, playing bingo and the Hays singles dances.
Ms. Rupp was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, both of Hays and the Daughters of Isabella in Gorham.
Survivors include three sons, Curt Rupp and Fred Rupp, both of Bushton, and John Rupp and wife, Kim, Greenwood, Ind.; one daughter, Jan
Yanda and husband, Daryel, of Gorham; one brother, Eugene Weigel and wife, Arlene, of Gorham, KS; two brothers-in-law, Ray Herrman and wife, Katie, of Russell and Dwight Murray of Wichita; three sisters-in-law, Viola Weigel of Gorham, Velma Weigel of Munjor and Joan Weigel and Ron Arneson of Hays; nine grandchildren, Michelle Yanda, Jericho Hutchinson and wife, Christina, Marque Monsees, Miles Rupp and wife, Jamie, Forrest Rupp, Steve Frost, Krista Frost, Mellisa Butler and husband Chris and Joseph Nealy; and 12 great-grandchildren, Aubrey Campbell, Brian LeGrand, Matt Elms, Fabian Hutchinson, Katana Hutchinson, Xavier Rupp, Jaidy Rupp, Izyk Rupp, Steven Schultz, Bethany Monsees, Garrett Butler and Delilah Butler. She was preceded in death by her parents; former husband; one grandson Dale LeGrand Yanda; five brothers, Francis, Gilbert, Albinus, August Jr., Edward Weigel; five sisters, Virginia Windholz-Herrman, Olga Hoffman-Montgomery, Mary Zimmerman, Catherine Logsdon-Murray and Dolores Heit-Ralston.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 18th and Vine in Hays. Burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Gorham. A Hays V.F.W. Auxiliary memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday and a Gorham Daughters of Isabella rosary is at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, all at the mortuary. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, all at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church or St. Mary’s Cemetery.
