Betty Jean Waitt, 84, died Dec. 25 at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend. She was born July 15, 1929, at McPherson, the daughter of Austin and Eva (Wilson) Nyquist. She was a Registered Nurse working at Hadley Medical Center, Hays, and at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend, retiring in 1994.
Mrs. Waitt had been a Great Bend resident since 1955, coming from Hays. She was of the Presbyterian faith. She enjoyed genealogy, playing the piano, and was facilitator and trainer for the Lupus Foundation Kansas Chapter.
Survivors include three sons, Frank Waitt and his wife Doris of Thallichtenberg, Germany, Gary Waitt and his wife Dale of Topeka, and James Waitt and his wife Kathleen of Great Bend; one brother, Lynn Nyquist and his wife Brenda of Wichita; two grandchildren, Jason Waitt and Kris Waitt; and eight great-grandchildren, Elijah Waitt, Trinity Waitt, Cierra Waitt, Caden Waitt, Kenyon Waitt, Seth Waitt, Kai Waitt and Kaylee Waitt.
Funeral service will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, at Bryant Funeral Home with Pastor John Grummon officiating. Interment will follow at 11:30 a.m. Monday at McPherson Cemetery in McPherson. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 4-5 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
