HOISINGTON — Blanche R. Doonan, 88, died May 4 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita. She was born Oct. 18, 1923, in Rush County, the daughter of Alex and Rosalia (Legleiter) Schaffer. She married Willard G. Doonan Nov. 5, 1939, at Russell. He died July 18, 2001. A longtime Hoisington resident, coming from Barton and Rush counties, she was a retired credit/layaway clerk for J. C. Penney’s.
Mrs. Doonan was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Altar Society, Hoisington, and Daughters of Isabella, Great Bend.
Survivors include two sons, Roy Doonan and wife Joan, Hutchinson, and Glen Doonan and wife Dorthy, Hoisington; two daughters, Faye Doonan, Hoisington, and Darlene Stoss and husband Ed, Hoisington; three sisters, Ida Pfeifer, Libenthal, Charlene Decker, Salina, and Dorothy Cavanaugh, Cottonwood, Ariz.; three brothers, Bennie Schaffer, Tallahassee, Fla., Richard Schaffer, Marion, and Albert Schaffer, Kansas City; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and four step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Willard Ray Doonan; two brothers, John Schaffer and Gene Schaffer; one sister Alice Schaffer; and a granddaughter, Melinda Stoss.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington, with Father Francis Oroffa, celebrant. Interment will be at Great Bend Cemetery in Great Bend. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., followed by an altar society and D of I rosary, all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. John Cemetery Fund, Kans for Kids or American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
