NICKERSON — Brenda S. “BJ” Johnson, 62, of Nickerson, died Sept. 22 at Hospice House in Hutchinson.
She was born Dec. 17, 1948 in Hutchinson, the daughter of Virgil and Fern Krauter Nelson. She graduated from Nickerson High School in 1966 and later graduated from Sidney’s Hairdressing College. Brenda lived in Great Bend for 20 years where she taught cosmetology at Barton Community College. When she and her husband moved back to Nickerson, she taught at Sidney’s Hairdressing College, and later owned and operated Hair Design Etc. in Hutchinson. On March 13, 1983 she married Ray E. Johnson in Nickerson. He died October 26, 2006.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Salem Community Church at Nickerson.
Survivors include two daughters, Jenny Hughes and husband Sean, Hutchinson; and their sons, Dakota and Wyatt Hughes; and Shawn Maddox and her husband Steve, Edmond, Okla., and their sons, Hayes, Mitch and Trace Maddox; her father, Virgil Nelson, Sterling; and a sister, Kathy Theede and her husband Roger, Nickerson. She was preceded in death by her mother.
Funeral services are scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Salem Community Church near Nickerson. Burial will be at the Salem Community Church Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday; and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, both at Elliott Mortuary.
