GREAT BEND — Bruce N. Furrey Jr., 47, passed away June 16, 2016, in Great Bend.
He was born Oct. 9, 1968, in Great Bend. He was a lifetime resident of Great Bend where he attended school. He was an employee of and resident at Sunflower Diversified Services in Great Bend for many years. Bruce was a 38-year ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) survivor. Before his disease prevented him, he loved to write stories. He would draw his own illustrations and even make up a language for his characters.
Survivors include his parents, Bruce and Carol Furrey of Great Bend, Kansas ; two sisters, Rachell Davis and husband, JD, Crete, Neb.; and Lisa Funk and her husband, Bobby, Otis; step-sister, Laurie Linsner and her husband, Doug, Great Bend; three nephews, Alex Armstrong and his wife, Jacquelyn, and Luke and Jayden Martin; four nieces, Shaila Jones and her husband, Tyler, Sierra and Shyanne Davis, and Megan Keener; six great-nieces and great-nephews; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his biological mother, Rose Willard; Great Bend.
He was preceded in death by one niece; two aunts; two uncles; two cousins; and grandparents on both his father’s and mother’s side.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Bruce’s life will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Charter Funerals in Great Bend with Pastor Sandy Kennedy officiating.
According to Bruce’s wishes, cremation has been chosen. Bruce would have wanted everyone that attends his memorial celebration to be comfortable so there is no need to dress up. Come with your favorite stories and memories of this wonderful young man. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in care of Sunflower Diversified Services of Great Bend, Kansas or The Lawrence R. Barnett ALS Research Council.
