Calvin Leroy “Trapper” Calp, 75, passed away on March 31, 2023, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington, Kan. He was born on May 27, 1947, in Baltimore, Md., to Austin and Lillian (Tuzicka) Calp. In 1981, he married Elizabeth Myers-Springer in Great Bend, Kan. She survives.
A life-long area resident, Calvin owned and operated Calp Furs. He also worked as a bartender at Slacks. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding motorcycles in his young years. Calvin was an outstanding trapper and fisherman, and was revered by many in the areas.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Calvin Calp, Jr. and significant other, Tracey, of Salina, Kan.; a daughter, Carrie Holland of Tennessee; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a half sister, Betty Puckett of Texas; a half brother, Alvin Brazda of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a stepson Leonard Mumford and significant other, Jozette. He is preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Charles “Charley” Calp.
Visitation will take place noon to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, with family receiving guests from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m., at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Encounter Church, 601 S. Patton Rd., with Pastor Dwight Dozier presiding. Interment will follow at St. Ann Cemetery in Olmitz. Memorials have been designated to Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
