Carles “Butch” Clyde Fry 1945 - 2019

AUGUSTA — Carles “Butch” Clyde Fry, 74, died May 7, 2019, at his home in Augusta, Kan. Butch was born March 16, 1945, in Great Bend, Kan. A year ago, Butch and his wife of 22 years, Luanne, moved to Augusta to be closer to family.

Butch was born and raised in Great Bend. He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1963. After Butch graduated, he embarked on a multitude of careers. Butch did it all from EMT, ambulance driver, ranch foreman, cowboy, and ASE diesel mechanic. He also taught some AC and refrigeration classes at Colby Community College in Colby, Kan. When Butch wasn’t working, he was active with his musical talents and his passion for racing. Butch was an avid race car enthusiast, drag racer, and musician. He was a 25 year member of the NHRA Track Announcers Guild, a charter member of Sunflower Rod & Customs Associations (SRCA), and a Great Bend SRCA Dragstrip board member. For many years, Butch was a guitar player for the Good Ol’ Boys band.

Butch is survived by his children from his previous marriages, Morgan Fry, Lexington, Kent., Stacey Beeler, Sacramento, Calif., and Amy Gier, Atlanta, Ga. While married to Luanne, Butch created strong relationships with Luanne’s children, Kristin Roth, Park City, Kan., Lance Sedbrook, Paradise Valley, Ariz., Eric Sedbrook, Houston, Texas, and Jason Sedbrook, Augusta, Kan. Butch is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Esther Fry; his siblings, Judy Vaughn, Carl Fry, and Max Fry Jr.

According to Butch’s wishes, the family will not have funeral service. However, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Kans for Kids: Fighting Cancer Foundation (kansforkids.org) or the Great Bend SRCA
