Carol Joan Lundquist 1927 - 2013

Carol Joan Lundquist passed away Oct. 5, at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend, in much of the same manner in which she was born. She died with strength, grace, and dignity. Carol was born March 27, 1927 at her aunt’s home in Milwaukee, Wisc., to Carl John and Rose Caroline (Blum) Pohlman, with a remote chance of survival. Born two months prematurely, Carol was placed in an improvised shoe box incubator by her aunt and father, after the doctor felt there was no hope of survival. On Sept.16, 1946 she married Verome Lundquist in Lindsborg. He died on June 13, 1975. A resident of Great Bend since 1955, she was a nurse’s aide and ward clerk, being employed at Central Kansas Medical Center for 20 years. After her retirement she worked part time at Wal-Mart.
Survivors include one son, Terry Lundquist and wife Susie of Great Bend; two daughters, Arlene Bakumenko and husband Val of Great Bend and Sara Orsack and husband Terry of Sioux Falls, S.D.; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and many grand pets, that she loved and cherished. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Russell Pohlman and Gerald Pohlman; two sisters, Arlene Rose Pohlman and Betty Jane Gehring; and many pets and grand pets.
Graveside memorials services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Great Bend Cemetery with the Rev. William F. Johnson officiating. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Kans for Kids or Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
