ST. JOHN — Charles E. “Charlie” Blakeslee, 89, passed away on Aug. 8, 2016, at his home. Charles was born on June 22, 1927 at Great Bend, the son of George Washington and Lena A. (Hiss) Blakeslee. He was a life-long Stafford County resident and farmer, while also working over 19 years at Minnis Funeral Chapels.
His memberships include Trinity Community Church, Hudson; Hudson Senior Citizens and he was past South Seward Township board treasurer.
On Aug. 6, 1950, he married Norma J. (Hullman) at Peace Church in rural Hudson. She survives, of the home. Other survivors include two daughters, Charla Bornholdt (Gary) and Emily Arpin (Sid), both of Hutchinson; a son, Kerwin Blakeslee, Ellinwood; two sisters, Juanita Fischer, Stafford, and Helen Boyd, Topeka; sister-in-laws, Lynette Blakeslee, Great Bend, and Betty Hullman, St. John; brother and sister-in-law, Don Hullman (LuAnn), Pratt; grandchildren, Jarrod Bornholdt (Monica), Hutchinson, John Bornholdt (Danielle), Hutchinson, Richard Blakeslee (Lori Stafford), St. John, Dustin Blakeslee (fiancée Jessie Deines) St. John, Heather Harrison (Paul), Walkerton, Ind., Hilary Arpin (Tony Johnson), Wichita, Elliot Arpin (Kirsten), Lee’s Summit, Mo., James Arpin (fiancée Shelby Nelson), St. Louis, Mo.; 10 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers George W. Jr. and Victor L. Blakeslee.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13, at the Trinity Community Church, Hudson, with Pastor Wade Russell presiding. Private family burial in the Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John. Visitation will be from 1-6 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home, with family present from 5-6 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Trinity Community Church or Johnson Cancer Research @ KSU, both in care of the funeral home.
