CHASE — Charles Orr Sharpe, known as Orr to family and Charlie to his wide group of friends, 89, of Chase, passed away February 10, 2019 at Good Samaritan Society, Lyons.  He was born August 21, 1929 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Walter D. and Marian Orr Sharpe.  He graduated from Chase High School and later attended Sterling College. Charlie lived most of his life on the family farm near Chase.  He was a machinist, farmer, welder and collector.  Charlie was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Model T Ford Club, Horseless Carriage Club, and The Artist- Blacksmith’s Association of North American. Charlie was an avid collector of all things antique including tractors, cars, and neon signs.  He proudly served in the United States Air Force from September 9, 1950 to September 8, 1954, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.  In 1988, Charlie was united in marriage with Clara Bell Robinson in Chase, KS. She preceded him in death on June 26, 2008. He is also preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Rita Sharpe. He is survived by his four nieces, Terry Baldwin of McPherson, KS, Denise McDonald of Seattle, WA, Melea Banman of Medicine Lodge, KS, and Lorri Gurnett of Thornton, CO.  Graveside service will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Chase Springdale Cemetery, Chase. Memorials may be given to Wounded Warrior Project of Kansas in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
