Charley Hoffsmith, 67, died Jan. 24, 2015, at Great Bend Regional Hospital, after a long battle with colon cancer. He was born July 4, 1947, at Dighton, the son of Benjamin Franklin and Marie (Orten) Hoffsmith. A long-time resident of Great Bend, he was the owner and operator of Charley’s Tree Service.
He was an avid collector and clock maker.
Charley had been married to Diane Coldwater. Survivors include Char Hoffsmith Hekele and husband Beau of Odin, Cindy Hoffsmith Sandy and husband Billy of Great Bend, and stepdaughter Donna Hilton and her companion Mike Ramey of Odin. Other survivors include Russell Broughman and wife Melissa of Wichita; and grandchildren Brooklyn, Aiden, Lynden, Kenzie, Kylee, Bayle, Kennedy, Danton, Daymon, Tyler, Taryn, Blayze and Kadyn. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Margaret Hoffsmith.
There will be a prayer service at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Bryant Funeral Home with the Rev. Dick Ogle, officiant. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the family receiving friends from 5-6 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Kans for Kids or Relay for Life of Barton County, in care of the funeral home.
