MCPHERSON — Clay Edward Korte, 94, of McPherson, Kan., passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 29, 2018, at McPherson Hospital. He retired as a supervisor from NCRA Refinery where he worked over 30 years.

Clay was born on May 27, 1924, in Garden City, Kan. the son of Albert Henry and Evangeline Anne (Welch). He graduated from Kinsley High School. He married Bessie Berry in Kinsley, Kan., and she passed away Feb. 4, 1950. On June 24, 1950, Clay was united in marriage to Emma Irene Reed in Dodge City, Kan. She preceded him in death Sept. 30, 1987.  

He served in the United States Navy during WWII in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of Operations.

Clay attended the McPherson Free Methodist Church.

Survivors include, daughter, Jeanie Kirby (Larry), McPherson, Kan.; son, Gary Korte, Bucklin, Kan.; sister, Vera Muth (Alvin), Great Bend, Kan.; three grandchildren, Chris Kirby, Corey Kirby (Tosha), and Kristi Stevens (Logan); four great-grandchildren, Dylan Zahn, Lexus Kelly, Hayden Payson, and Bailee Stevens; and 13 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Viola Merwin, LeRoy Korte, Violet Emerson, and Joy Cooper.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Griffith officiating. Inurnment will follow at McPherson Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given to McPherson Health & Rehab or The Omega Project in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS, 67460.
